Overview

Hacktoberfest, in its 8th year, is a month-long celebration of open source software run by DigitalOcean. During the month of October, we invite you to join open-source software enthusiasts, beginners, and the developer community by contributing to open-source projects.
You can do this in a variety of ways:

  • Prepare and share your project for collaboration
  • Contribute to the betterment of a project via pull requests
  • Organize an event
  • Mentor others
  • Donate directly to open source projects


How does the event work?

  • We have uploaded a set of projects ranging from beginner-friendly to expert on the OSS organization present on github.
  • Each project has a Mentor assigned to it and enhancements mentioned in its README.md file.
  • You are free to pick any of the enhancements and open an issue in the repository for the enhancement.
  • Once opened, the issue will be assigned to you by the mentor if it is available.
  • Once assigned, you can fork the repo and make your changes (commits). Once done with development of the enhancement, create a pull request (PR).
  • The mentor verifies the PR and merges the same to the main repository. Spam PR will not be accepted and will be penalized. All the upto the mark PRs will contribute to your PR at hacktoberfest.


    • Rules

    • No spamming of PRs.
    • All the PRs should have a sensible heading and description which depicts the enhancement made.
    • Take up issues that have not been assigned already.

    Your contributions will count only if you have registered and have been added as a member of OSS. Keep tabs on this page as more projects shall be added with time!

    How to Register?

    • Make sure to register yourself at the official Hacktoberfest website for the PR to count!
    • Fill up the following form so we can add you to the OSS organization!

    Rewards

    • All members who contribute at least 4 valid PRs during the event period will be given the role of 'Member' post the event. All the accepted PRs will also be accepted as a part of the official Hacktoberfest event as well.
    • The mentors who have contributed their projects will be included in the Core Committee of OSS for the next one year and will be given the role of 'Maintainer' in OSS github organization. We are still accepting projects and you may contribute to them by contacting the Campus Lead with your ideas directly.
    • Those who conduct workshops through the period shall be provided with a 'Mentor' role at both OSS and OSS github organization. For conducting workshops, contact Campus Lead with your ideas directly.
